The language law is unnecessary, opinion

The Head of Socio-Cultural Society of Transcarpathian Romanians Vasyl Yovdiy in his interview to the BBC Ukraine said that the law on the principles of state language policy was unnecessary.

"In all Romanian speaking villages, Romanian was recognized as the regional language. However, I believe that it was unnecessary, we must know the state language. Real bilingualism in paperwork is a very difficult and complex thing," – Mr. Yovdiy said.

He said that he is often invited to be a translator in court or police. A few people understand Romanian there, and they have no money for interpreters.

"So far, we have not felt any positive changes. Such important things must be prepared seriously, and not just "bang" – and you have the law" – Vasyl Yovdiy complained.

Recall, August 10th will be one year from the date the Law on the principles of state language policy entered into force.
