Do not dig! For illegal extraction of gravel from rivers, two Transcarpathians face up to three years in prison

Transcarpathian Interdistrict Prosecutor’s Office for supervision of compliance with environmental protection laws, together with officers of the State Ecological Inspectorate and the Traffic Police in Transcarpathian region have conducted checks for compliance with the requirements of the Code of Ukraine on Mineral Resources and the Water Code regarding the legality of extraction of sand and gravel in Khust and Mukachevo districts.

According to the Transcarpathian interdistrict prosecutor for supervision of compliance with environmental protection laws Mykhailo Hanhur, during the inspections, they have found evidence of illegal sand and gravel mining by private entrepreneurs.

In particular, entrepreneur M. in Khust district, without proper permits, illegally extracted more than 500 cubic meters of sand and gravel from ​​the Tisa river, which caused state losses totaling about 100,000 UAH.

A similar fact was revealed in Mukachevo district, where an entrepreneur illegally extracted 70 cubic meters of sand and gravel from the Latorica river.

Criminal proceedings have been sent to the relevant police authorities to conduct preliminary investigation, the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office reported.
