On Thursday, June 27, the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Oleg Proskuryakov arrived to Transcarpathia for an official visit. The Minister and the head of the region Oleksandr Ledyda visited Velyky Berezny district: a unique natural object – centuries-old oaks in Stuzhytsya and the Nova Stuzhytsya environmental research center of the Uzhok National Park.
In the Uzhok national park, in the mountain village of Stuzhytsya, there is a unique natural attraction – the oldest oaks in Ukraine. One tree – 1,300-year-old "Champion" – is officially recognized as the oldest oak in Ukraine. Today, near the trees, they arranged a vacation spot, an observation deck, installed safety signs and information boards. This place is unique, however its tourist potential has yet not been fully realized, the deputy director of the Uzhok national park Yuri Pavley said.
The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine together with the Head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration also visited the Nova Stuzhytsya environmental research center. Soon, they plan to implement here several major projects: Programs for trout restoration and bison reproduction and the "Green school in virgin forests."
The Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Oleg Proskuryakov believes that the work to attract investment is reasonable and necessary:
– We will consider the possibility of additional funding for the national park from the State Fund for Environmental Protection. But, of course, we will work to create a program of investment attraction under the Law on public-private partnership.
– Therefore, the issue of opening new border crossing points with Poland and Slovakia remains relevant for Transcarpathia and Velyky Berezny district in particular. This will give a significant boost to the development of local infrastructure and tourism, – the head of the region Oleksandr Ledyda concluded.
