Hungarian Prime Minister Orban visited Beregovo Institute named after Ferenc Rákóczi II (PHOTOS)

On Friday, April 26, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban visited Beregovo. The Prime Minister of the neighboring country took part in the signing of the framework agreement on cooperation with the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute named after Ferenc Rákóczi II. 

The celebrations on the occasion of the signing of the agreement was attended by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Hungary Zsolt Neimet, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Ukraine Mihay Baer, ​​the Consul General of Hungary in Uzhgorod Jozsef Bachkai and in Beregovo Istvan Toth and others. At the invitation of the Hungarian partners, the Regional Council Chairman Ivan Baloha also took part in the event.

In April this year, the Hungarian government decided to support the institute. The agreement provides for "ensuring the necessary resources for the operation and development of the institute in Beregovo." During the event, the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, the President of the Transcarpathian Hungarian Institute  Ildiko Orosz, the Head of the institute charity foundation, regional council member Vasyl Brenzovych, regional council member Mykola Kovacs addressed the audience with speeches.

The agreement on cooperation was signed by the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the rector of the Institute Yosyp Sikura and its President Ildiko Orosz.

The institute received first students in 1994. 14 students were enrolled then, and the establishment was a branch of the Nyíregyháza Institute. Currently, the Institute has six departments and three offices.  Historians, linguists, geographers, mathematicians are trained there. In 1999 the research centers were created. The main research programs of the Institute are aimed at exploring the use of the Hungarian language in the region, the history of the region, as well as the study of interethnic relations.
