The sculpture of the bear, which had been moved from the Poshtova Square to the rock garden, has again been crippled by vandals, this time – more than seriously.
The Bear, who originally was painted in the colors of the flag of Transcarpathia and on its back had the emblem of the region, recently was intended to symbolize the mark of "zero kilometer" (such marks are placed near to city post offices and they, in particular, report distances to cities around the world).
However, after the bear changed its location, and with the help of the sculptor Mykhailo Kolodko also the appearance (it became golden brown and got on its body the names of sister cities of Uzhgorod with markings of the distances to them), it also repeatedly suffered from vandals. The Bear had its back broken and turned into a waste bin. The sculpture was repaired, and on the eve of the Day of the City the damaged part was painted in horrible color.
And now the bear is damaged again, and rather seriously – it lost almost half of the body. Whether the poor sculpture could be repaired this time is unknown.
