Today at night, August 7, unknown individuals completely destroyed two greenhouses of Transcarpathian plant breeder Henry Straton who is the only in Ukraine who grows hardy kind of kiwifruit.
Intruders took nearly 5,000 seedlings with the roots. ‘I came in the morning, saw all this and called the police. Everything was documented and operational search is being conducted currently – commented Henry Straton. – Probably the plants were put in bags and taken away by car, because there were no ‘lost’ plants on the territory.
According to preliminary estimates plant breeder lost 600 thousand hryvnia (one seedling costs 120.00 hryvnia).
‘Over the past two or three years biologist’s business rose and marched him with a quite substantial income with whom he allegedly had to share according to some people. This situation reminds ‘tumultuous’ 90th, when businessmen were simply strangled at some point. Therefore, someone decided to take this business and under control’ – commented on then the Transcarpathian expert, political scientist Victor Paschenko who knows the plant breeder for many years.
