Today, on July 17, the press center "Zakarpattya" presented a book publishing project of the regional newspaper, which aims to support the publication of books by Transcarpathian authors – "A little library of the newspaper "Stary Zamok".
As the chief editor of the weekly Larisa Podolyak noted, the idea of a little library occurred due to the recent events in the country – controversial adoption of the language law and the proposed changes to the tax code, which can lead to the fact that the Ukrainian book will rise in price by half next year. Financially the project has been supported by the Minister for Emergency Situations of Ukraine Viktor Baloga, but the initiative is open to all concerned, anybody who can help Transcarpathian creative, scientific, journalistic thought to see the world and reach the reader.
By the way, Transcarpathia, the smallest and most western region of Ukraine, is unique for having 11 representatives who have received the highest artistic award of Ukraine – the National Shevchenko Prize.
The first book, published in the project has become a trilogy by Dmytro Keshelya "Flight of the singing stones". During the presentation, the writer said that this is his best work, which he had been writing for 15-20 years. "This is a book about my generation. About people who were born after the war and lived through many difficulties. Who is it intended for? For everybody, it is universal. This is a book about love, about the birth, life and death”.
The Chairman of Transcarpathian Organization of National Union of Writers in Ukraine Vasyl Gusti said: This is a unique case in our country today, when the newspaper makes its own library and helps to publish books.
The Director of the publishing house "Karpaty", which has published a book, Victor Braslavets noted that now Ukrainian literature is rising and the books by Dmytro Keshelya are never enough.
The next book of the little library will be published in about a month. The founders of the project do not give out the intrigue, but they have assured that it will be a real surprise. Also a children’s book is getting ready for publishing, and among the future plans there is the publishing of the collection of works by young artists and a collection of works by members of the international festival "Carpathian vatra", which will take place in our region and will be attended by poets from around Carpathian Euro region.
In general, a working group is being formed now, whose members will learn about all the works that will be submitted to the contest, which will determine the best prose works, poetry collections, art works and poems for children. These are 15 writers, scholars, journalists, book designers, so in 2013 the small library will publish new works. There is the intention of the project initiators to help e-books to see the world too.
