The meeting of Acting Chairman of Regional State Administration Ivan Bushko, Bishop-Ordinary of Mukachevo Greek Catholic diocese Milan Shashik and Acting rector of Uzhgorod National University Vitaliy Nikolaychuk took place on Tuesday, June 26. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Head of the region Ivan Kachur, Uzhgorod Mayor Victor Pogorelov, Uzhgorod City Council representatives and university pro-rectors.
Now, the transfer of a part of UzhNU book collections from the premises of Mukachevo eparchy residency is in progress. According to the representatives of the Greek-Catholic Church, the Library now occupies over 800 square meters (36% of the total area), the Diocese – 1460 square meters (63%). In their turn, the representatives of the higher education establishment emphasize that the area of the building, where books are held, is bigger. In the building there are still about seven hundred thousand of printed books. The new library at BAM, which has placed a part of the book fund, doesn’t have enough space yet. In order to transfer the rest of the books, they need to have about 2000 square meters more.
During the meeting, the participants also discussed the option of transferring a part of the library to the new building of UzhNU. But this building has not been completed yet.
The question of early printed books transfer remains a topical one – there are publications in the library, which reach the age of several centuries. In order for them to be moved, it is needed to make examination and determine whether the new building is suitable for keeping books.
The participants agreed that experts should determine the exact size of the room, which is now being used as the university’s library, inspect the premises of the new building on BAM, to assess the work concerning the transfer of the library collection to new premises – the press center of Regional State Administration informs.
