Night bike ride was organized in Uzhgorod to draw citizens’ attention to environmental problems. The event organizers say that a bicycle is the most environmentally friendly means of transport. However, there is nowhere to ride it in the city. There’s only one cycle lane, but it needs to be properly lit and repaired.
It is ten o’clock in the evening. Teatralna Square in the center of Uzhgorod is flooded with hundreds of cyclists. They are getting ready for the 15-kilometer ride around the city. They are wearing helmets, checking lights – and finally they start.
With this event the participants want to draw attention of officials to the problems of the city. They say, Uzhgorod is poorly lit at night, roads and pavements are not suitable for cyclists.
Cyclists say that they also want to draw the attention of citizens to the use of environmentally friendly means of transport.
The ride lasted two hours. If the requirements of cyclists are left ignored they are ready to repeat the event.
