Today, on May 22, the first in the region school for medical and social adaptation of diabetic patients opened in Transcarpathian Regional Novak Clinical Hospital. According to the chief endocrinologist of the region Olga Oleksyk, the number of diabetics is increasing every year. Now over 32 thousand diabetics are living in Transcarpathian region, but still so many people in the area simply do not know that they are sick too and live with it until difficulties appear.
Those who are registered in the district and regional hospitals are now able to get a qualified training in the hospital and receive a certificate after finishing.
With the help of information materials and lectures patients will be taught self-control and self-help. The complications that may occur in connection with diabetes will also be mentioned. They will teach to eat properly, to apply all the necessary items for the practice of patients: blood glucose meters, prefilled syringes, they will also show the technique of injecting.
Chief physician of Transcarpathian Regional Novak Hospital Yuri Yatsyna noted that opening of the school is an integral part of the diabetics’ treatment since this will increase patients’ awareness of the control over their disease.
