Berehovo district court convicted two local residents of taking five Pakistani citizens through the Ukrainian-Romanian state border.
In June 2011, previously convicted for illegal immigrants smuggling, Uzhgorod citizen agreed to illegally bring a group of Pakistanis to Romania. For each illegal migrant he was to have received 100 USD.
The criminal had an accomplice – a local resident, who was hiding five foreigners in a village called Bene in Beregovo district.
Local residents were planning to bring the illegals to the village of Teresva in Tyachiv district, and pass the Pakistanis on to other persons, who were to have smuggled them across the state border.
For transportation of migrants the criminals used their own car and a taxi.
In June 2011, law enforcement officers detained them near the border.
By Beregovo district court the organizer of smuggling has been sentenced to 7 years and 3 months of imprisonment, and his accomplice – to 7 years. The verdict has come into force – informs the press center of the SSU.
