Today in Hungary the parliament is electing a president. The need is explained by the resignation of the previous president Pal Schmitt on 2 April, who resigned due to the fact that he had been caught at plagiarism while writing his doctoral dissertation.
"Fidesz Christian National Democratic Party," which is the ruling coalition, supports the candidacy of Janosh Ader – a former chairman of the Hungarian parliament, their representative in the European Parliament, reports UNN. At the same time, the opposition party "Jobbik" is ready to collect the required number of votes to nominate an alternative candidate. Two other opposition parties, Socialists and “Politics can be different”, are not going to participate in the presidential elections.
According to Hungarian law the country’s president is elected by a constitutional majority in the parliament.
