Yuriy Lutsenko checked involvement of Tyachiv law enforcement officers in covering of gambling business (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko, during the working visit to Transcarpathian region on October 10, 2017, visited Tyachiv local prosecutor’s office, in connection with complaints about abuse of office by the head of the said prosecutor’s office and the searches conducted by the General Inspectorate, as a result of which 8 rooms with 90 illegal slot machines were detected.

The head of the Tyachiv local prosecutor’s office was asked a number of questions about the numerous complaints of residents of the district about the operation of illegal gambling establishments, inactivity of the local prosecutor’s office in counteracting these offenses, as well as covering of illegal business by law enforcement agencies, and other negative phenomena. 

Officers of the General Inspectorate of the Prosecutor General’s Office escorted the prosecutor of Tyachiv local prosecutor’s office to the city of Uzhogrod to conduct the necessary investigative activities.

The department for pre-trial investigation of criminal offenses committed by prosecutors and officers of the Prosecutor’s Office of the General Inspectorate of the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine is conducting pre-trial investigation in a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Art. 364 (abuse of power or official position) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. 

During the pre-trial investigation, the head of the Tyachiv local prosecutor’s office in Transcarpathian region is checked for abuse of his official position for the purpose of personal enrichment, systematic gaining of illegal benefit in return for covering illegal activity in the field of gambling.

In particular, it was found out that eight illegal gambling establishments are operating on the territory of Tyachiv district. 

Also, searches were conducted at the place of residence and in the office of the head of the Tyachiv local prosecutor’s office of Transcarpathian region.

Employees of the above-mentioned gambling establishments are being interrogated to establish the involvement of law enforcement officers in their activities.

Other primary investigative activities are being carried out. The pretrial investigation continues.
