Young men who robbed the church in Uzhhorod will be tried

Prosecutors of Uzhgorod sent to the court the indictment in the criminal proceeding on the theft of the box with donations from church.

The oldest defendant is taken into custody, another one is under house arrest, and juveniles were released under a personal pledge.

During the preliminary investigation, it was revealed that on September 21, 23-year-old, previously convicted unemployed citizen A, together with a friend and two other minor boys, entered the premises of the Holy Cross Greek Catholic Cathedral through the open door of the service entrance, and stole from there the box for donations which contained more than one thousand hryvnias.

Later, detectives arrested the thieves in "hot pursuit." Criminal proceedings under Part 2, 3 of Art. 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft committed by a group of persons upon their prior conspiracy, coupled with the penetration of the premises) were initiated agaimst the criminals.

In addition, the oldest offender A. ​​will have to answer before the law also for the involvement of minors in criminal activity (Part 1 of Art.304 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The boys sincerely repented of their deed, which was a mitigating factor in choosing the sentence.
