The Day of Commemoration of the Participants of Combat Operations in the Territories of Other States and the 31st anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan was traditionally celebrated today in Uzhgorod on Pravoslavna Embankment near the Mournful Mother Monument.
The celebrations were attended by the acting head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Oleksiy Hetmanenko, the deputy head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Igor Shynkaruk, the deputy chairman of the Transcarpathian Regional Council Petro Hrytsyk, the head of the Transcarpathian Territorial Organization of the Ukrainian Union of Veterans Mykhailo Kutskir, heads of law enforcement agencies, diplomatic agencies, Afghanistan war veterans, representatives of veterans’ NGOs, participants of military operations in the territory of other states, mothers of fallen soldiers, clergymen, members of the public.
The event began with the performance of the National Anthem of Ukraine. Addressing the veterans of Afghanistan, the guests of honor expressed their respect to the courageous countrymen who had to serve combat duties around the world.
The attendees commemorated the victims of combat operations in different countries, as well as the soldiers who gave their lives in eastern Ukraine, while defending the integrity and independence of our country, with a minute silence and laid flowers at the monument.
