Citizens of Ukraine will receive first driver’s licenses with chips already today in Kyiv, and within a month it will be available in the entire country. This was stated by the head of the Center of road safety and automated systems at the MIA of Ukraine Serhiy Budnik.
He said that within a month, driving licenses will be issued in those departments where there are technical facilities.
Citizens of Ukraine will have the option to receive license with or without a chip. The cost of license without a chip is 198 UAH, with a chip – 247 UAH. At the request of the driver, license can be issued without a chip. Replacing old-style driving license with new one, including the one with a chip, is not mandatory. Mandatory replacement license applies only to the Soviet licenses.
However, chip will be required in the registration certificate of the vehicle.
Also, as Budnik previously stated, the Cabinet of Ministers amended the validity term of driver’s license. "The validity term used to be 50 years, now the relevant resolution provides that the validity term for A, A1, B-B1 categories shall be 20 years, for other categories – 10 years" – said Budnik.
The government introduced a new form of driving licenses in March 2013. By January 1, 2014 driving licenses issued on the USSR forms need to be replaced, those issued from 1993 to March 29, 2011 will be valid indefinitely. International driver’s license may be issued only on the basis of national driving licenses (at the request of its owner).
