Uzhgorod Roma have elected Miroslav Horvath as the leader of their community

December 30, there was the meeting of Uzhgorod Roma who live densely in several neighborhoods of the city. The meeting in this format was convened for the first time in 20 years: as noted by moderators, the previous similar event was in 1993.

The main purpose of this meeting was the establishment of a formal Gypsy union and election of the leader who in the future will ensure representation of Roma in order to address certain issues.

At the meeting, a Roma association was formed unanimously and named "The Union of Uzhgorod Roma." The union, as agreed at the meeting, will not be registered as a legal entity and will act formally, because its main purpose is the effective solution of problems that currently exist in the Roma environment.

During the meeting, it was decided that the newly established association is primarily intended to consolidate the Roma, and the elected leader is obliged to continuously provide support to members of the Roma community, and always be the first to take up the resolution of any problems that arise in gypsy environment.

After heated debate, discussion and almost quarrels Uzhgorod Roma elected Miroslav Horvath as their leader.

Speaking to the community, the newly elected leader of the Roma community of Uzhgorod said: "Your rights are my duty. And I promise, if you ring me with a request for help, I always pick up the phone."
