The morning of February 5 began for fire-fighters with an alarm call. At 10:12, they were reported about the fire on Volodymyrska street. Units 14 and 15 of the State Fire and Rescue Stations of the city were immediately sent at the scene.
On arrival, they found out that the fire had originated on the first floor of a five-storey residential building. Because of the strong smoke that filled all of the stairwells, residents of the house could not leave their appartments and cried for help. Using ladders, firefighters rescued three people who were on the fourth and fifth floors. A boy, who lives with his mother in an apartment on the third floor, was taken out by a firefighter Volodymyr Popovich. In addition, ten residents of the five-story building were evacuated.
According to a resident of the apartment where the fire occurred, around 10 am she heard a strange sound coming from the next room. Looking in, she saw flames, which were raging inside. Wasting no time to think, she grabbed her 3-year-old son and ran out into the street. Fortunately, no one was hurt on the fire.
At 10:48, firefighters localized the fire, and at 11:55, completely extinguished it. The fire destroyed household items, windows and furniture that were in the room, also blackened the walls and ceiling of the apartment.
The cause of fire and amount of damage is under investigation – the Office of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region reported.
