During the Christmas holidays, Ukrainians throw away food in amount equivalent to 30 tons of salad.
These data were obtained by researchers of the AgriSurvey company.
"The amount of food waste from every New Year’s table in Ukraine on average is equivalent to UAH 199 or 18% of the subsistence minimum in 2013" – the press release of the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club states.
At the same time, the researchers emphasize, monthly food waste of, for example, a British family is much higher, but they account for only 6% of the subsistence minimum in the UK.
They also found out that 67% of the urban population of Ukraine (regardless of age or gender) have traditional Olivier salad on the New Year’s table.
"This level of waste means that people in Ukraine throw in the trash on average 4.8 kg of "Olivier" salad from every New Year’s table, which in total amounts to 30,100 tons of Olivier in the country in general," – the manager for marketing and sociological research of the AgriSurvey Hanna Kvit emphasizes.
She said that 39% of urban residents in Ukraine usually have at least 5% of food waste, and 15% of residents throw away more than 30% of New Year’s food.
According to the survey, mature and elderly people are the most parsimonious in this regard, and young people and those who celebrate the New Year in big companies are the most wasteful.
