Ukraine and the European Union will sign an agreement on visa liberalization on Monday

Ukraine and the European Union will sign an agreement on amendments to the Agreement on Visa Procedure Simplification on Monday, July 23.

This information was confirmed in the press service of European Commissioner of Internal Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom.

‘We confirm that the signing will take place on Monday in Brussels’ – informs the press service.

According to the agency the Ukrainian side insisted on signing the on Amendments to the Agreement on Visa Procedure Simplification between Ukraine and the EU as a part of ‘Eastern Partnership’ ministerial meeting, which will be held on July 23 in Brussels.

The Agreement between Ukraine and EU on Visa Procedure Simplification was signed on June 18, 2007 and it came into force on January 1, 2008. In December 2011, the parties completed negotiations on making amendments to the document that provide further liberalization of visa regime. On February 16, 2012 the document was initialed and was began the process of preparation for signing.

The project of the agreement simplifies the rules for visa issuance to Ukrainian and expands the list of categories of such citizens. A separate agreement more accurately and completely regulates the procedure and period of validity of multiple-entry visas. The document also states that intermediary firms collaborating with diplomatic representatives of countries with issuance of visas could charge a fee for their services in an amount that does not exceed 30 euro.
