Transcarpathian police have launched an investigation into the destruction of a memorial in Svalyava

This incident has now been registered and an investigation has been launched. Officers of the investigative team were sent at the scene, during the inspection they established that the damage had been probably caused by weather conditions. However, the matter is still being looked into. According to Hanna Dan, if the fact of vandalism is confirmed, police officers must identify the offenders and classify this incident, the Suspilne informs. 

Recall that the secretary of the Svalyava memorial park council Gyorgy Dupko reported about the damage. According to him, unknown people tore down and desecrated the panel, which bears information in three languages: Ukrainian, Hungarian and German. The materials of the display tell about the tragedy of Transcarpathia, in particular, the internment of Hungarian and German men in Stalin’s camps by the NKVD in the autumn of 1944 on the basis of the decree issued by the military council of the 4th Ukrainian Front.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba called the damage to the memorial a provocation.
