Transcarpathian police are investigating a fatal accident, which resulted in the death of a minor

Rakhiv Police Department opened a criminal investigation into an accident in Rakhiv, where a motorcycle driven by a drunk young man ran over a boy and a girl. The victims suffered bodily injuries of moderate severity. As a result of the accident, a minor passenger died after falling down from the motorcycle.   

The tragedy occurred around 23.20 on April 28, on Burkut Street in Rakhiv. 

A 20-year-old local resident, being in the state of intoxication, was driving an unregistered motorcycle "Soul". He was asked for a ride by a 14-year-old local boy, who is studying and living in the capital, and came to visit his relatives on holidays. 

On the way, the motorcyclist lost control and drove to the roadside, where he hit a boy and a girl standing on the side of the road.  As a result of the impact, the minor passenger, who was not wearing a helmet, fell down from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries as a result of the fall on the ground. 

The victim died in Rakhiv hospital. 14-year-old girl and 19-year-old boy that were hit by the motorcycle were also hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. 

The motorcyclist himself suffered no serious bodily injuries. He fled from the scene. 

First, the police found the motorcycle left on another street, and the driver himself was detained several hours later. The 20-year-old motorcyclist was tested for intoxication, 0.85 ppm of alcohol was found in his blood. 

Rakhiv police opened a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (Violation of traffic safety rules, which caused the death of the victim). The driver was arrested in accordance with Article 208 of the CPC of Ukraine and taken into custody. The motorcycle was taken to the police inpound lot. The circumstances of the fatal accident are being established by the investigators.
