Transcarpathian Labor Market: Figures and Facts

The director of the Transcarpathian Regional Employment Center Yuriy Fushchych recently spoke in an interview with journalists of a regional TV channel about the situation in the labor market of Transcarpathia, the main trends and activities of the regional employment service.

"Today, 5.2 thousand job-seekers are registered with the Transcarpathian Regional Employment Service. This is approximately half of the number registered 3 years ago. The current situation in the labor market of the region shows a shortage of labor resources for workers’ specialties, unwillingness of the Transcarpathians to work for the offered salary. The consequence of these phenomena is a significant outflow of labor to neighboring countries," – Yuriy Fushchych said.

According to the head of center, the state employment service has used all the means to improve the situation on the labor market.

"First of all, it is the vocational guidance for schoolchildren to show the younger generation the realities of the present day, the relevant professions currently in demand at the enterprises of our country, to prepare them for the conscious choice of the profession, taking into account the opportunities, inclinations and abilities of an individual. Secondly, it is prompt notification of the population about available jobs, wages, working conditions, through career fairs, fairs and mini-fairs of vacancies, outreach events, employer presentations, etc. The State Employment Service offers retraining services to improve the competitiveness of the labor market. Thirdly, active cooperation with employers, educational institutions, social partners in order to respond promptly to the needs of each other and the society as a whole," – the director of the regional employment center said.

Another type of service offered to jobseekers is the promotion of their own business. According to Yuriy Fushchych, there are consulting centers at the employment centers, where people are taught entrepreneurship, get acquainted with the relevant legal framework, receive assistance in opening their own business.

"All the main activities of the employment service are aimed at overcoming the imbalance in the labor market. I am convinced that through close cooperation with job-seekers and employers, as well as with social partners and educational institutions, we are able to change the situation for the better", – Yuriy Fushchych summed up.
