On Thursday, October 18, Transcarpathia will join the annual world campaign "Walk for Freedom". Thus, street actions will take place in Beregovo, Khust, Uzhgorod and Mukachevo districts.
In Uzhgorod, citizens, volunteers, NGOs and representatives of the public sector will start the event on Poshtova square at 12:00. The route of the walk will go through Poshtova square, Nezalezhnist embankment, Korzo, Voloshin, and Dovzhenko streets.
The campaign aim is to raise public awareness of the human trafficking problem, disseminate important information about the dangers it poses. The action is not a protest, it is a silent and peaceful procession, which has been taking place for five consecutive years in defense of millions of men, women and children in slavery. Last year, 400 cities in 50 countries joined the campaign.
Recall that the European Day Against Trafficking in Human Beings was initiated by the European Parliament on October 18, 2007. Ukraine was among the first countries in Europe, which in 1998 introduced criminal responsibility for trafficking in human beings.
