This year, the police have caught more than 1,000 drunk drivers

Driving while being intoxicated is the most serious violation of traffic rules.

Since the beginning of the year, patrol policemen of the Patrol Police Office in Uzhgorod and Mukachevo have recorded more than 1,130 cases of drunk driving and registered 96 traffic accidents involving drunk drivers. If there is a suspicion of drunk driving, patrol policemen invite the driver to take the test on the spot or in a medical institution. The examination on the spot is conducted in the presence of two witnesses.

For driving in a state of intoxication, policemen draw up against the driver a report under Art. 130 of the CAO of Ukraine and seize driver’s license. The punishment is determined by court.

Recall that the law "On increasing responsibility for drunk driving" entered into force on July 27, 2016. Now, driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medicines that affect response time is punishable by a fine of 10,200 UAH with deprivation of driving license for 1 year. Repeated violations shall be punishable by a fine of 20,400 UAH and 40,800 UAH and deprivation of driving license for 3 years and 10 years for the second and the third violation respectively.
