There is no flood in Transcarpathia , but rescuers have plenty of work

During 10-11 of January, significant rainfall was recorded in the region. Overall, 15-20 and in some places 25-30 mm of rain has fallen in the region. Consequently, there was raising of the groundwater level, and therefore flooding of some households and homes. In some places, ice jams formed on the rivers. 5 districts were affected by the weather – Tyachiv, Rakhiv, Vynogradiv, Irshava and Mizhhirya.

In Tyachiv district, in the village of Dubove, Karl Marx Street was partly flooded. 9 households were affected by the flood. Officers of the State Fire and Rescue Post of the village of Dubove pumped the water out of three yards.   In addition, rescuers cleared the supports of vehicle bridge from debris caused by the flow.

In Vynogradiv, due to heavy rains, water broke through onto Persykova street near one of the houses. Officers of the 6th State Fire and Rescue Unit, who arrived at the scene, cleared the roadside ditch and thus eliminated the danger.

In Rakhiv district, rescuers prevented flooding of households. In Rakhiv, Komarov street was partially under water, which posed a threat of flooding of six private yards. Officers of the 3rd State Fire and Rescue Unit pumped out about 13 cubic meters of water and thus saved the houses from the effects of weather.

In Mizhhirya district, due to ice drift, two ice jams formed that threatened with flooding of yards. In the village of Kolochava, on the Kolochavka river, ice jam had a size of 10×25 m. Officers of the state fire and rescue post of the village of Kolochava together, with local people, using improvised means eliminated the jam and prevented significant rise of the water level in the river. In the village of Pylypets, on the Repynka river, ice jam measuring 25×200 m formed. In the evening, officers of the 4th State Fire and Rescue Unit of Mizhhirya made holes in the ice to let water can flow freely downstream. At night, the ice diappeared completely, freeing the channel of the river.

Two more ice jams formed in Irshava district – on the Irshavka river in the village of Siltse and on the Borzhava river in the village of Velyka Roztoka. The size of the first jam was 15×500 m, and the second one was 20 m wide and 1.7 km long. In both cases, because of warming and rain, ice disappeared by itself. Ice remained only on the river banks.

At present, specialists of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region are carrying out constant monitoring of the situation in the region.
