The Ukrainian, Hungarian, Russian languages and the Transcarpathian dialect in one theatrical play

The Y. Bandurovych Ukrainian national theatre and the Hungarian national theatre of the Berehovo House of culture performed the play "Once in Beregszász" at the Regional Academic Puppet Theatre Bavka.

The comedy in two acts is based on the play of Olexandr Matey and Olha Matey. The owners, workers, guests and the visitors of the hotel take part in the plot that develops during one day at the hotel and restaurant complex "Beregszász. Several love stories develop in parallel in the play. They are dissimilar form each other and appear just in time on the eve of Saint Valentine’s Day.

The play’s specialty except its humour lies within its "multilanguage". The heroes speak in Ukrainian, Hungarian, Russian and in Transcarpathian dialect. Though this does not prevent them from finding a common language – the language of humaneness and feelings.

The play was prepared to the festival on the occasion of the Days of European culture. This festival was held for the first time last Autumn. Already then, the festival received a lot of positive reviews both from the local public and from the guests of the Hungarian twin cities. "It was not for the first time that we tried to show how representatives of different nationalities peacefully and fruitfully have been cohabiting in Transcarpathia for many years. Moreover, they not only live in the neighbourhood, but are on friendly terms, create families, get closer with each other with a sincere interest, respect others and others’ choice. We really can be proud of this and be a good example for many", – says Olha Matey.

It is already the authors’ 11^th play. Last year, the artistic duet presented the drama "The trapped lion". This play won the honourable second place at the national festival of folk theaters among 30 collectives. The artists intend to present their new work to a wider public.
