The treasures of the Ukrainian iconography at the “Stritenski zustrichi” (PHOTO)

An unusual exhibition was opened in the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life today. It presents the works of the members of the icon workshop "Nebo na Zemli" ("Heaven on the Earth") from Mykolayiv.

The workshop was established in 2004 on the incentive of fathers Mykhailo Shpolianskyi and Serhiy Pavaelko. It unites a pleiad of talented iconographers: Mariya Pavelko, Kateryna Tsyrulik, Kostiantyn Samoilenko and Natalia Sobolieva. The masters work according to ancient technologies using only natural materials, a great amount of which is made by themselves.

The exhibition comprises more than 50 works. You can find among them works of canonic iconography performed in traditional technique of egg tempera, modern interpretations of techniques of Ukrainian and foreign schools of iconography by the authors. In particular, the last collection contains icons made on stone and performed using the technique of hot enamel. These works are truly unique. They refer to the original sources both by their content and energetic filling, however, in a more formal embodiment.

Mariya Pavelko, the representative of the icon workshop hopes that Transcarpathians will not only meet the beautiful but meet God and themselves as well at the "Stritenski zustrichi".

The representatives of the cultural-artistic collective and the spirituality of the region emphasized on the high artistic value of the icons and on their presentation in the very festive Christian days. They invite the citizens and guests of Transcarpathia to visit the exhibition until 20 March, reports the Department of culture of the Transcarpathian RSA.
