Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region detained a foreigner who for almost two years had been hiding from investigation in France and is suspected of drug smuggling.
In 2014, the foreigner, while leaving our country, tried to transport cannabis across the Ukrainian-Hungarian border in the inside pocket of a backpack. Chop customs officers found the drugs during customs control.
Then, investigators of the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region officially notified the French resident of Georgian origin of being suspected in a crime. Uzhgorod City Court ordered him to appear at the first call of the preliminary investigation or court. The foreigner ignored the requests of investigators and the court and left Ukraine, and on November 20, 2014, he was put on the international wanted list.
During the raid, the foreigner was detained by security services and border guards in Kyiv after landing at the airport "Borispol".
Uzhgorod City Court imposed on the smuggler a pre-trial restraint in the form of arrest with the possibility of bail.
