The oldest oaks in Ukraine grow in Transcarpathia

The famous Transcarpathian ethnographer Oleksandr Bogdanov on his Facebook page told about the numerous monuments of the village of Stuzhytsia.

"The village of Stuzhytsia, Velyky Berezny district, Transcarpathian region. It is known, above all, for its two old oaks. Earlier, they were considered to be very young. Then they re-measured them and it turned out that the oldest oaks in Ukraine grow in Transcarpathia. The magnitude of the age is 1000-1200 years.

Transcarpathians are happy. But do they know that in the village of Stuzhytsia there are many attractions worthy of attention? For example, there is a fantastic mineral spring. With a good debit and very tasty water.

Here is another example. A very short route to the Kremenets mountain starts here. It is the point where the borders of three (!) countries converge: Ukraine, Slovakia and Poland. And yes, there were serious battles on that mountain during the First World War. A real Mecca for Transcarpathian black diggers.

There is a dozen more monuments around. But I will tell about them later…

Today, we flew over Stuzhytsia.

And photos of the oaks from above are not particularly impressive. High objects look better from below. So, today, there is a mix: photos from the ground + photos from the sky. I think it’s a better way to reveal the essence of the village’s awesomeness," – Oleksandr Bogdanov wrote in the post.
