The number of supporters of European integration in Ukraine has increased by 20% – survey

Over the last six months, the number of supporters of European integration in Ukraine has increased by 20%.This is evidenced by the results of the poll conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS), the UNIAN reported.

In particular, if a referendum on whether Ukraine should join the European Union or the Customs Union of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan had been held in May this year, along with the presidential election, 47 % of all citizens of Ukraine would have voted for accession to the EU, 27% – for joining the Customs Union. 12% chose not to vote, 14% were undecided.

Thus, the number of European integration supporters is 20% more than Customs Union supporters, whereas prior to the protests in late November 2013 the percentage of citizens who would have voted in favor of joining the EU was only 3 % more than those who would have voted for the CU (39% for the EU, 36% for the CU), the KIIS reported.

Kyiv International Institute of Sociology conducted the poll in the period from April 22 to May 14. The survey was conducted in 110 settlements in all regions of Ukraine, except for the Crimea. As a result of the field phase, 2022 questionnaires were collected.Statistical sampling error (with probability 0.95 and at the design effect 1.5) does not exceed 3.3% for figures close to 50%, 2,8% – for figures close to 25%, 2,0% – for figures close to 10%, 1,4% – for figures close to 5%.
