As of July 1, 2018, the rule of rounding off total amounts of cash payments will be applied in Ukraine, that is, the National Bank of Ukraine stops minting coins of 1, 2, 5 and 25 kopiykas, – the Ukrinform reported.
This was announced during the presentation of circulating coins with the nominal values of 1, 2, 5 and 10 UAH by the head of the NBU Yakiv Smoliy, the correspondent of the Ukrinform reported.
He noted that coins of 1,2, 5 and 25 kopiyka denomination would continue to function as a means of payment and one Ukrainian hryvnia would still be equal to 100 kopiykas.
"In order to simplify the calculations, rounding-off rules for the total purchase amount will be established. In case of cashless payments, rounding-off will not be applied. Ukrainians will continue to be able to use the small denomination coins, while the trading network will be able to set marketing prices that end with 99 kopiykas. The application of rounding-off rules by the National Bank has been agreed upon with all state bodies", – Smoliy said.
