The EU is about to cancel daylight-saving time

The European Commission proposes that all countries of the Union should stop switching to daylight-saving time in 2019 and choose the permanent time they will be living by – winter or summer.

Yesterday, September 12, a detailed plan for cancellation of the seasonal time change was presented.

Everything needs to be coordinated in order to ensure the proper functioning of the internal market and to avoid a situation where some Member States decide to keep time change, while others abandon this practice.

The EU states were giving time until April 2019 – by this date they have to decide whether they plan to use winter or summer time.

The last time switch will take place on Sunday, March 31, 2019. And in the countries that want to stay in the winter time – on Sunday, October 27, 2019. After that, the time change will be canceled.

This decision must be approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.
