Famous Ukrainian heart surgeon came to examine Transcarpathian patients and read lectures to medical students. On Monday, April 8, the head of Transcarpathian regional administration Oleksandr Ledyda met with the director of the Kyiv Heart Center, Professor, Honoured Doctor of Ukraine Boris Todurov. The meeting was also attended by the the Regional Health Department Roman Shnitser, the Rector of UzhNU Fedir Vashchuk and the vice-rector for research and educational work of the university Vitaly Nikolaychuk.
Boris Todurov said that the cooperation with Uzhgorod National University continued – a few times a year experienced cardiac surgeons come in Transcarpathia to read lectures to medical students. Also the cooperation with medical institutions, including the City Hospital and Regional Cardiological Clinic is developing. Today the program is very sated:
– Today we have two lectures. In addition, we plan to examine about 50 children in Mukachevo hospital – using our own equipment, because we brought ultrasound machines and echocardiographs. In the city hospital we will receive adults – Boris Todurov said.
During the meeting they also discussed the state of medicine in the region. Specifically, Boris Todurov noted that despite the fact that cardiac surgery in Transcarpathia is still developing, there is a considerable potential here. Among the raised pressing issues there was a problem of delivery of liquid oxygen for the medical needs to the region. Since Transcarpathia does not have its own "oxygen" plant, the substance has to be transported in special cylinders from Lviv. This requires money and takes time. The head of the Regional Health Department Roman Shnitser said: soon they will be buying liquid oxygen in larger quantities – it will be delivered to the regional center in 7 ton containers, and from there it will be distributed to the districts in cylinders. This method is more convenient and economical.
The head of the region Oleksandr Ledyda stressed out that medical field is now under special control of the regional and state government. Thus, in the region they are making every effort to improve the quality of medical care and increase the funding for the sector.
