After Epiphany, people start to throw away Christmas tree from homes. Few people know, but the appearance and disappearance of a Christmas tree from houses was associated with a certain ritual.
Transcarpathian anthropologist and researcher Yuriy Chori says that it has long been believed that the appearance of a Christmas tree in the house is owed to baby Jesus and Angel. Only after ringing a bell (this mission would be entrusted to the oldest master of household), children would be let into the room where a Christmas tree was set up.
Yuriy Chori says that Christmas tree must disappear from the home unnoticed, the same way as it appeared there. Our ancestors usually would burn branches in the oven, cut off the top and make a batlet of it, and bare trunk of a Christmas tree would serve as trellis for branches of fruit trees.
And nowadays, people get rid of Christmas trees simply – throw them in the trash. They do it because of ignorance, phytotherapists believe, because coniferous recipes are not well-known. Meanwhile, bath with needles helps to treat rheumatism, and inhalants of green "spines" are the best medicines for cough.
