As a result of heavy rains, that occured on June 3-4, villages of Lukovo and Bilky in Irshava district were flooded – the head of the Office of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region Miroslav Shcherbey reported.
Miroslav Shcherbey said: prolonged observations show that the most significant floods in the region are associated with the melting snow. This danger has passed, though residents of certain districts nevertheless worry about flooding, considering the events in Europe. Another reason is heavy rains. He assured about that also: "We take measures to prevent and adequately respond to emergencies."
"What we saw happening in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany and now in Spain does not threaten us. But we must be prepared. And we have problems – channels have not been cleaned for years. Not all heads of towns and villages perform their duties conscientiously. And it is village heads who are responsible for cleaning of drainage and channels. Our residents turn canals and rivers into landfills. That is why in spring there were floods in Vynogradiv and Irshava districts," – Shcherbey said.
