The case of owners of cars with foreign registration: Reality and Prospects

In Uzhgorod Press Club, there was a meeting, the main theme of which was "Causes and consequences of the conflict at the checkpoint "Uzhgorod"and prospects for owners of cars with foreign registration in Transarpathia".

Pavlo Biletsky, the chairman of the NGO ZAVTRA told journalists that the State Border Guard Service had installed a fence on neutral territory next to the checkpoint from the Slovak side. So, many motorists now go to Chop to cross the border. To find out the reasons for installation of the fence, activists met with the head of the Chop border guard detachment, who said that they could not cross the border in Uzhgorod. "We gave him a formal letter asking to review the situation and information requests from the NGO ZAVTRA. As we found out, there was no order on the installation of the fence there. There was no coordination with related agencies. When we decided to see where the fence was located, men with guns told us we were tresspassing. Border guards began to threaten us with violance. They did use force against two of us. If it were not for police officers, there would have been more serious injuries," – Pavlo Biletsky said.

Vitaly Terelya, a member of the NGO ZAVTRA confirmed his words.

Before the incident at the checkpoint "Uzhgorod", activists appealed to the head of the RSA H.Moskal with the request to ask V.Nazarenko (the head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine) about the fence. They received the answer that it was the request of the Slovak party. However, Janka Burianova, the Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhgorod denied it. All the infrastructure of the checkpoint Uzhgorod belongs to the customs office, and the customs office did not authorize the installation of the parapets.

Victor Prestaya, the owner of a car with foreign registration said that a lot of time had been lost because of all those events.

According to Pavlo Biletsky, the NGO ZAVTRA appealed to the Transcarpathian MPs, the Regional Council to resolve the situation. But only Robert Horvat responded. They reported on the situation at the meeting of the Parliament. The activists ask to leave people alone until the relevant legislation is adopted.
