In 2012, the highest level of air pollution, estimated by the complex air pollution index (API), was registered in five cities of Ukraine – Odesa, Gorlivka, Armiansk, Slovyansk and Dniprodzerzhyns’k.

In the first quarter of 2013, Ukraine reduced emission of pollutants into the atmosphere by 6.65% compared to the same period in 2012 – to 55,182,700 tons.

In particular, the emission of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere during that period was 54,072,100 tons, which is 6.7% less than for the same period in the last year. Emissions of other pollutants into the atmosphere in January-March dropped by 4.4% – to 1,110,600 tons.
