Women of Verkhovyna start to work on Easter bread till dawn: it should take at least three hours from kneading to further handling made by skilled hands. Thus, rich mountain air and the warmth of a cozy house wake the dough to meet a new day. We welcome the dawn in Mizhhirya district at a special place not only for Transcarpathia but for the whole Ukraine. We baked Easter bread on the Clean Thursday in beautiful Kolochava together with Verkhovyna women who put a willow twig at the dough so that it "did not run away …" as they say.
