Summer without camps: children in Transcarpathia will rest at home

State commission on technogenic and ecological safety and emergencies at its extraordinary meeting decided not to open children’s health camps until July 1 this year
Reporting on the state of the situation with children’s camps, the Minister of Health of Ukraine Maksym Stepanov said that despite the need to rehabilitate more than 1.2 million children this summer, the clinical situation regarding COVID-19 remains quite tense, the "Government portal" informs.
In turn, the Minister of Social Policy Maryna Lazebna noted that 75% of those children who should be rehabilitated this year are children from low-income families who need social support. "So let’s think first of all about their health. The Ministry of Social Policy believes that a rehabilitation campaign should be launched only when the epidemiological situation in the country improves," – the Minister said.
Oleksiy Petrov, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration, on his page in FB also noted that
“The dynamics of the COVID-19 incidence in the region in particular is disappointing. Recently, Transcarpathia has been breaking anti-records in coronavirus statistics. Over the past 24hrs, 46 Transcarpathians have been diagnosed with COVID-19. In total, during the pandemic period, 1,726 residents of the region have been diagnosed, including 112 children. Therefore, it is too early to open children’s camps.
We must not allow a large increase in coronavirus patients and thus overloading of medical facilities.”
