Smugglers tried to transport 6 thousand packs of cigarettes in a rubber boat

This morning, border guards of the "Tyachiv" department of the Mukachevo detachment prevented an attempt of cigarette smuggling. While patrolling the state border, border guards saw a group of people. Carrying packages on their shoulders, they were running to the Tisa river, which forms the border with neighboring Romania. Having noticed the border guards, the men left eight cigarette packages near the border and fled.

 The response team was immediately sent to the place, where the illegal activities had been detected, and 800 meters to the border stopped a Fiat Doblo and 6 people, who might be involved in the illegal activity. Four of them did not have any documents. There was a rubber boat in the car, which they apparently had planned to use for smuggling the tobacco products across the river.

The persons detained in a controlled border area without documents, who might be involved in an attempt of cigarette smuggling, were taken to the border guard unit to draft reports on administrative violations. The legal assessment of their actions and the punishment will be determined by court.

The found six thousand packs of cigarettes will be handed over to representatives of the fiscal service.
