Smashed cars, broken power line posts and billboards, unroofed buildings – the aftermath of the hurricane with hail in Transcarpathia

The hurricane damaged a children’s camp, unroofed administrative, public and private buildings, broke power line posts and billboards, smashed cars, caused blackouts. Tyachiv and Irshava districts were affected by the bad weather the most 

The storm, that swept over Transcarpathia on Tuesday and Wednesday night, left dozens of settlements without electricity and communication, damaged roofs on hundreds of buildings, caused considerable damage to forest plantations.

– Two districts of the region – Irshava and Tyachiv – were affected the most, – Hennadiy Moskal said. – In the village of Osiy (Irshava) district, the storm damaged residential and administrative buildings of the children’s recreation camp. Fortunately, there were no children in the camp at the time, so nobody was hurt. In the village of Brid, hail damaged about 150 roofs of private homes, as well as the schools, the outpatient clinic and the kindergarten. The neighboring villages of Deshkovytsia, Ilnytsia and Bilky were also affected by the hail. Special commissions are documenting the amount of damage. There are no reports of people getting injured as a result of the bad weather

In Tyachiv district, the settlements of the Tereblya valley were affected the most: Vilkhivtsi-Lazy, Uhlya, Uholka, Kolodne, Dulovo, Krychevo, Chumalevo. The wind toppled power line posts and towers with mobile communication antennas and tore roofs off buildings. In Uhlya, in addition to the private sector, the roofs of the secondary school, hospital (utility buildings) and the kindergarten were damaged. Special commissions are documenting the damages incurred. The storm also caused significant damage to the state forestry enterprises; information about the damage will be made public later. There are no reports of people getting injured as a result of the bad weather.

In the near future, another wave of the atmospheric front moving from Hungary and Romania will sweep over Transcarpathia.

As of 10.00 on Wednesday, a total of 42 settlements of the region are without power, of which 27 – completely, and 15 – partially. By the end of the day, all settlements of Transcarpathia should have power.
