An original idea was implemeted recently at the solar power plant in the village of Rativtsi, Uzhgorod district. A herd of sheep was brought to the alternative energy facility to roam freely among the solar panels.
According to the energy company group RENER, the sheep perform several important functions:
"Sheep breeding is a traditional occupation in Transcarpathia. That is why we decided to start a little sheep farm at our plant. In addition to improving the aesthetic look of the facility, the sheep perform an important mission – they eat the grass that grows fast and interferes with energy generation by blocking the sun. We hope that the animals will enjoy it here," – Yuriy Sas, the Head of the Public Relations Department said.
