The Security Service of Ukraine in Transcarpathian region detained a representative of the state-owned enterprise “Velyky Bychkiv Forestry” for obtaining undue benefits.
According to preliminary investigation, the forestry official set up a scheme to obtain money from illegal sale of raw materials. For various amounts of bribes, he promised local entrepreneurs to let them export valuable species of wood from the territory of the forestry without relevant documents.
Operatives of the intelligence service documented two facts of sale of 12 m³ of untreated ash for $1,200.
Law enforcement officers detained the official in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine at his workplace while receiving part of the bribe.
The choice of charges and pre-trial restraint against the detainee is currently being decided. Within the framework of the opened criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 368 (acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an undue benefit by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, investigative activities are being carried out to prosecute other persons involved in the deals.
