Investigators of the Territorial Office of the State Bureau of Investigation located in the city of Lviv are conducting a pre-trial investigation into the possible abuse of power by officers of the Uzhgorod City Police Department in Transcarpathian region.
According to media reports, on September 13, 2019, policemen brought two citizens to the premises of Uzhgorod City Police Department and severely beat them.
As a result, one of the men jumped out of the office window on the fourth floor of the police station building, sufferring injuries, and he is now being treated in a hospital.
The SBI investigators are investigating the circumstances of the incident and interviewing witnesses and victims. Urgent investigative measures are being taken.
The classification of this case is abuse of power or official authority with violence, weapons, infliction of pain and actions insulting to the victim’s personal dignity (Part 2 of Art. 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
If found guilty, the law enforcement officers face imprisonment for a term of three to eight years, with deprivation of the right to occupy certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to three years.
