Rivis: financial and legal support from the regional government will save the only mountain airport in Ukraine

A draft decision on amendments to the Program for improvement of the Transcarpathian Regional Communal Enterprise "International Airport "Uzhgorod" for 2013-2016 will be submitted for consideration by the deputies of the Transcarpathian Regional Council.

   – The proposed amendments will further the comprehensive solution of the enterprise functioning issues, will allow to maintain it in good condition, comply with all necessary aviation security and certification eligibility requirements, – the Chairman of the Regional Council Mykhailo Rivis said.
Recall that by the decision of the Commission for certification, registration of airfields and determination of runway operability of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine dd. February 11, 2016, the certificate of aviation security and, accordingly, the aerodrome certificate was suspended starting from February 15, 2016. This decision of the Commission was based on the results of the experiment to determine probability of threats to aviation security at the airport conducted on January 28, 2016 by officers of the State Aviation Service and the Security Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region.
According to the Chairman of the Regional Council, to restore a large portion of the airport infrastructure, the regional administration jointly with the International Airport "Uzhgorod" developed and submitted for the competition an investment program that can be implemented at the expense of the State Regional Development Fund in 2016.

In 2015, at the expense of the regional budget, construction documents were prepared. The amount of funds required for the implementation of the first stage is over 47 million hryvnia, of which UAH 42.4 million will be allocated from the State Regional Development Fund, and UAH 4.7 million will be co-financing from the regional budget.

– I am sure that these measures will eliminate the deficiencies that led to such decision of the commission and, consequently, to banning regular flights from the airport on the route: Uzhgorod – Kyiv – Uzhgorod, and will create conditions for improving the safety of air transportation and certification eligibility of the airfield infrastructure. Financial and legal support from the regional government will save the only mountain airport in Ukraine, – the chairman of the regional parliament concluded.
