Public procurement for the Army will be entrusted to volunteers

Volunteers will be formally engaged in procurement of clothing and meals for the Ukrainian army

This was announced by the advisor to the President of Ukraine Yuriy Biryukov, the "Interfax-Ukraine" reported.

"An hour ago, the Minister of Defence decided to reform the Department of procurement and to appoint Nelly Stelmach the Director of this Department," – Biryukov said at the press conference on Monday.

He said that Stelmach had pioneered the volunteer movement.

According to him, the process of a formal appointment to this position will take a few days, after which she "will have a full range of powers regarding clothing and food procurement for the Ukrainian army."

"Since now, we can say that representatives of the volunteers will be responsible for providing food and clothing for all of the Ukrainian army. It is indeed a victory for us," – he said.

Biryukov reminded that a month and a half ago, the center for interactions with volunteers had been established at the Ministry of Defense, which included eight volunteers.

According to the adviser, for the past six weeks, volunteers "could not do anything because of a resistance to any reforms in the system of the Ministry of Defense."  

Biryukov also said that there would be "a chain of layoffs" and new appointments at the Ministry of Defence and General Staff, which will be announced at the press conference on January 8.
