Over a ton of amber was seized at the Transcarpathian customs post “Luzhanka”

Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine together with the Prosecutor’s Office blocked the smuggling of amber to the EU countries from Transcarpathian region, the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine informs. At the customs post "Luzhanka", law enforcement officers found in a minibus of a local resident more than a ton of illegally extracted amber. The "goods" were in travel bags in the back of the van. Special service operatives found out that one of the customs officers was assisting in the smuggling of amber across the state border of Ukraine. According to preliminary estimates, the value of the seized stone at the prices of the "black market" is about one million dollars.

Officers of the Security Service of Ukraine detained the customs officer in accordance with Art. 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine for illegal clearance of goods. Within the framework of a criminal proceeding under Part 2 of Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, urgent investigative and operational measures are being taken to prosecute other persons who may be involved in the illegal activities.
