Families gathered on Narodna Square in Uzhgorod, near the building of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration. They demanded to open preschool educational institutions. The participants of the protest also expressed dissatisfaction with the remote learning system. Parents asked to open schools on September 1 as usual.
The First Deputy Head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Oleh Kotsyuba, the Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hanna Sopkova, the Head of the Transcarpathian Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Halyna Sitnyk.
As the deputy head in charge of education, Oleh Kotsyuba explained:
“Operation of kindergartens was discussed at the extraordinary meeting of the emergency response commission. Given that the number of patients with COVID-19 is decreasing, we considered options for opening kindergartens. However, the position of epidemiologists is strict: they are against it. During the current week, we will continue to monitor the situation regarding the incidence of coronavirus, and at the next extraordinary meeting of the emergency response commission we will raise the issue of the operation of kindergartens. I fully understand the situation and many members of the commission are for the opening of kindergartens. However, the position of epidemiologists is categorical: the course of the disease in children is almost asymptomatic, but when they return home, they can infect their parents and grandparents."
Representatives of the initiative group thanked for the meeting.
