On the occasion of the 1028th anniversary of the Baptism of Kievan Rus, that Ukraine will celebrate on July 28, the exhibition "Transcarpathian icons of XVIII-XIX centuries" has been opened in the Transcarpathian Regional Art Museum, the Department of Culture of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration informs.
As explained by the director Francisk Erfan, the exhibition of icons is the Museum’s traditional way of honoring the landmark event in the history of our country. Moreover, every time they present new exhibits from the bulk of the museum’s collection of sacred works.
This time, those are works of the mentioned period, that were discovered in the Carpathian churches, created by both well known and completely unknown artists.
Along with this collection, the halls of the museum host other permanent exhibitions, which feature works on sacred themes created by Transcarpathian luminaries, national and international artists, for example, Russian icons are well represented.
As for the current exhibition, according to art historian Lyudmila Biksey, it features very interesting icons under the collective title "Bliss" painted by one of the Spalinski brothers – famous painters of Polish descent who lived and worked in the monastery of the Basilian Fathers in Mukachevo. The series "Bliss" was created by Thaddeus Spalinski, who also painted the iconostasis for the Holy Cross Greek Catholic Cathedral of Uzhgorod.
The thematic collection also includes a painting by Yosyp Bokshay.
You can take advantage of a rare opportunity to see these unique works visitors for the next three weeks (every day except Monday, from 10.00 to 18.00).
And later, at August 18, the Museum will host a grand presentation of works by members of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine in honor of the 70th anniversary of establishing of the Union’s regional organization (the opening of the exhibition is to be specified).
